About Bogota, Colombia
Bogotá is the capital and economic and
service center of Colombia. Colombia’s relative stability, a
well-educated labor force, increasingly reliable
infrastructure, and strategic regional location, as well as
Bogota’s solid political leadership and professional municipal
management have contributed to the City’s considerable growth
over the last decade.
With a population of about 6.7 million residents (16% of the
Nation’s total), the Capital District of Bogotá is the economic
engine of Colombia, with a GDP of US$19.2B in 2005, or
22%percent of national GDP.
The City’s per capita GDP is over 140% of the national
average and the quality of life index in Bogotá (88%) is much
higher compared to the rest of the country(73%).
The last four administrations have greatly improved the City
through investments in areas such as public spaces, public
safety, parks, libraries, and mobility and transport, while
enhancing fiscal sustainability.
Bogotá is recognized internationally for its innovativeness,
and progress toward social responsiveness and inclusion,
environmental sustainability, and provision of municipal
infrastructure.
Bogotá's economy is well diversified and centers on the
service and industry sectors.
These sectors, combined with transportation, communications,
and real estate, account for just over 60% of the total GDP
providing a solid and dynamic economic base.
