Chengdu is the economic center in western
china, the GDP in 2006 reached 275 billion Yuan, per capita GDP
achieved 3213 dollar, its import & export volume reached
6.9 billion dollar.
Chengdu is also the financial center in west of china with
27 financial institutions, 29 insurance companies and 43
stockjobbers.
In the near future, Chengdu will become a new financial
center in china. With great number of scientists and
specialists, Chengdu is the most important scientific research
base in the west of china.
Chengdu is home to more than five thousand
foreign-funded enterprises, because of tax breaks and other
perks offered to companies investing there. Over thirty large
multinational corporations, including Motorola, PepsiCo,
Coca-Cola, and McDonnell Douglas of the Untied States, chit Tat
of Thailand, Bayer and Siemens of Germany, and Toyota and
Mitsubishi of Japan, have started operations in
Sichuan.
Key industries are IT, machinery, metallurgy,
pharmaceuticals, chemicals, food and beverage, and building
materials.
There are more than 20 Higher Learning Institutes, 120
independent research institutes and 2500 scientific research
entities. More than 500,000 intellectuals are professional in
electron, biology, new material, photics, Nuclear Techniques,
laser optics, etc.
Chengdu is the transport hub for railway, high way and air
transport .As the fifth biggest airport, Shuangliu
international airport is not only the main gateway to Tibet,
but also a new rising air hub to connect the middle and west of
china with European and south east Asian.
The National Development and Reform Commission has formally
approved Chengdu's proposed establishment of a national
bio-industry base there.
China's aviation industries have begun construction of a
high-tech industrial park in the city that will feature space
and aviation technology.
The local government plans to attract overseas and domestic
companies for service outsourcing and become a well-known
service outsourcing base in China and worldwide.
