About New Delhi,  India

Rajiv Circle, formerly called Connaught Place, one of northern India's largest commercial and financial centres, is located in the heart of New Delhi. With an estimated net State Domestic Product (SDP) of 83,085 crores (830.85 billion) Indian rupee (INR) (for the year 2004–05), Delhi is an important commercial centre in South Asia.

Delhi has a per capita income of 53,976 INR. The tertiary sector contributes 78.4% of Delhi's gross SDP followed by secondary and primary sectors with 20.2% and 1.4% contribution respectively.

Since the mid 1980s, policies aimed at improving the county’s economy have had a dramatic impact on the city.

With land scarce in India’s other main cities, such as Bombay and Calcutta, large amounts of commercial growth took place in New Delhi and several industrial areas have been created and developed by organisations such as the Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation and the Delhi Development Association.

Naraina Industrial Area, located in the northern part of New Delhi, is one of the most successful of the city’s industrial estates.

It is home to approximately 1200 industrial units manufacturing everything from electronic and engineering goods to plastic goods and clothes. Subsequent economic reforms have helped to attract substantial levels of foreign investment into the city.

As the city’s economic fortunes have improved mass migration has seen New Delhi’s population increase dramatically, growing by approximately 46 per cent Between 1991 and 2001 alone.

New Delhi is India's major gateway for international flights and an important transport centre, benefiting from good road and rail connections to the rest of the country.

The two terminals of Indira Gandhi International Airport, located to the southwest of the city, offer an extensive number of flights to destinations throughout India and the world.

Terminal II, receives all the international flights, while Terminal I is responsible for domestic traffic. Between 2001 and 2002, the airport catered for 3,715,383 international passengers and 4,783,826 domestic passengers.
